I designed a bespoke doublet for the lead character in Peter Pan, a recent dance production by British Dancing Academy. The doublet base is a mottled green quilting cotton lined in ultra-light cotton voile. The upper exterior is embellished with strips of bias-cut organza in autumnal colors which are woven together for a shimmery, earthy, textured effect. A sprinkle of organza leaves with a bit of sparkle added more dimension. I dyed power mesh to match the cotton on the doublet in a 4-part tie-dye method to achieve a similar mottled effect. I then made a pair of loose shorts with a dagged bottom edge to look a bit tattered. A leather belt and frog secured between two belt loops on the doublet hold the dagger close to the body while dancing. The green wool felt hat blank was steamed, molded, and trimmed into a bycocket with a blanket-stitched edge, finished with the iconic red pointer feather.
